Summer internship with YouGov’s Social and Political Research Team

Duration: 6 weeks

Dates: 25th June to 3rd August (6 week placement)

YouGov is a leading market research company, specialising in internet polling. We operate worldwide, and cover a wide range of issues, from political polling to entertainment. We specialise in quick, accurate and insightful analysis of emerging trends, and work with commercial organisations, the media and academics to provide high quality data and comment. We are most well-known for our political research which is often quoted in the media but we have several other departments which provide a wide range of research service and products.

This role will involve working as a key member of the team on quantitative projects. Tasks will include designing survey questions, scripting surveys, analysing data and producing results. Throughout the placement you can expect to gain unrivalled experience and understanding of conducting primary quantitative research for one of the country’s most successful, innovative and well-known research organisations.

The position is best suited to a confident, well-organised, outgoing individual who has an understanding of primary research and a desire to pursue a career in either political or social research.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Producing results for publication using SPSS and Excel
  • Writing reports and commentaries for clients and/or the YouGov website
  • Producing questions and proposing topics for research
  • Creating surveys using our in-house software
  • Checking press releases, newspapers and online sources for YouGov’s published results
  • Helping out with other administrative tasks

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent written and spoken English accompanied by good numerical skills
  • A strong interest in and knowledge of British politics
  • Experience in working with quantitative data and statistics
  • A full working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • An ability to meet strict deadlines
  • A keen eye for detail

Experience using the following is desirable but not essential:

  • SPSS
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Outlook
